Reid Street Gallery, an art gallery featuring local and regional art for sale, will open this weekend in Chatham.

A ribbon-cutting will take place at 6:45 p.m. Friday, followed by a reception from 7 to 10 p.m.

Heavy hors d’ouvres, beer, wine and soft drinks will be served.

The event is free and open to the public.

The grand opening weekend will continue Saturday with a Spring Art Festival from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., featuring additional local art, including silver and copper jewelry, pottery, paintings and drawings.

The gallery will also host a Sip and Spatter event Saturday evening from 6 pm to 9 p.m., during which participants will be guided through a simple painting while enjoying wine and refreshments.

The registration fee of $40 includes all supplies as well as two glasses of wine. Proceeds will benefit the Boys and Girls Club of Chatham.

A children’s art workshop will take place Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. The event, open to ages 6 to 12, is free and no registration is required. All supplies and refreshments will be provided.

Reid Street Gallery is located in the former Whitehead Farm Supply/CNJ Glass building on the corner of Reid and Pruden Streets, just off Main Street, in lovely downtown Chatham.

Additional parking is available just across the street in the town lot.

The gallery, founded by Ben and Betty Davenport and managed by Director Alisa Davis, intends to encourage art in the region and enrich the lives of the community through art.

The opening show features artists from across Virginia, including Chatham, Danville, South Boston, Lexington, Staunton, and Charlottesville.

The gallery will also exhibit art by former state senator Charles Hawkins and his wife, Sylvia. Both are talented artists.

All art is for sale and supports the region’s vibrant art community.

In addition, the gallery is available for receptions, meetings and other events.

Reid Street Gallery will be open Tuesday through Friday from 10 am to 6 pm, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The gallery is open other times by appointment.
